Each year we export millions of flowers and flower products.Local market is also very strong and it expands at a rate of 20% annually.Which means the demand for ornamental flowers are increasing day by day.Today flower farmers are getting decent price for their flowers. But diseases and attacks from pests are main challenges for farmers. These issues decreases the quality of the flowers and forces farmers to spend more money for chemicals and pesticides.Seasonal climate changes are another challenge.Greenhouse Flower farming is a complete solution for such issues.Lets check how Greenhouse technology can help farmers
  • Greenhouse shelters provide excellent protection from external climate changes.Temperature and other factors inside the shelter can be controlled effectively. Thus Greenhouses provide optimum climatic condition for plants which yield more quality flowers.
  • As Greenhouses are isolated from external environment, diseases and pest issues are less, almost nil. This ensures quality flowers.
  • Off seasonal production possible.
  • More export level foreign plants can be grown.
  • Very easy to incorporate latest technologies and methods of farming inside Greenhouses.
  • A more professional way of farming.
  • Bulk production and harvesting possible
  • Consistent supply of flowers to the market possible
  • More return on Investment.
  • Yield is 10-15 times more compared to open farming. This will boost your revenue and selling capacity. You will get more bargaining power also.
Flowers like Gerbera,Roses,Anthurium,Orchids,Lily etc are commonly cultivated inside Greenhouses.Greenhouse Gerbera farming is more popular in India.Special Rose varieties like Dutch Rose,Yellow Rose,Mercedes, starlite,Grand galla,Ravel,Noblese etc are also cultivated inside Greenhouses. These flowers are mainly used for decoration. So the quality of the flowers are very important.Greenhouse cultivation helps farmers for producing quality flowers.
Greenhouse flower cultivation help farmers to produce maximum number of High quality flowers from a small area.In India,we can utilize the huge domestic market and fast growing export market to sell these flowers. The bulk and consistent production of export quality flowers can trigger market very positively and the farmer can take benefit of it.So the scope of flower farming in Greenhouses is very high in India.

  1. Hello Sir - I am interested in taking up greenhouse farming in India, but I keep hearing that it gets really too hot inside for plants to grow in Indian conditions. Is it true and how do farmers in India control the heat inside the green house? Thanks Prabhu

  2. Hi,

Indian conditions are a little bit hotter in some seasons. But we can opt for ventilation inside greenhouses to control temperature.Either natural ventilation(hot air is removed through the air passage at top of greenhouse)or Mechanical ventilation(fan).Cooling can be done by using fog Nozzles which is used in drip irrigation system or by Pad-and -fan method. Both are useful..
