Getting started-Things to take care

   We all love pigeons.The primary criteria for starting a hobby is the interest towards it.same way for becoming a fancier,we must have interest in pigeons and love towards them.But only with this we cant become a successful fancier.

  As a starting fancier,we must choose our breed carefully.Its not recommended to raise lots of pigeons at the starting itself.We must select one or two pairs of our favourite breed.It is recommend that get an experience by breeding common pigeons.Anyway after selecting our favourite breed,we have to concentrate on the nest.

Loft

The size of the nest depends upon the no of pigeons we have and their breed.We can build big loft or small cages depending upon our need.The primary criteria is the cage should have enough space for the pigeon to move and open its wings.The cage should be neat and cleaned periodically.If we can provide aviary near the nest then its good for the health of the pigeons.The cage should provide necessary protection for the pigeons from predators and humidity,winter like environmental changes.

Food

Food is the primary factor which controls the health of the pigeons.Availability of pure water is a must.The pigeon food must contain major proportion of carbohydrates,then proteins,then vitamins and fat.Giving a food that contains large amount of fat is not recommended.Giving vitamin tablets/solutions periodically helps to makeup the missed vitamins from the pigeon diet.Please try to avoid the food becoming contaminated.

Medicines/treatments

Regular preventive vaccinations and treatments helps to avoid unnecessary health problems and helps our pigeons to maintain their health.

Cleanness of Environment

Cleanness of the nest and its surrounding is of primary importance for the health of the pigeons.The nest should be cleaned on regular basis.Try to provide as much ventilation for getting the fresh air which increases oxygen contents.

Aviary

Aviary has its own importance in maintaining the health of the pigeons.and it protects your pigeons from losing them.If there is no chance to give an aviary,then we can give necessary exercise by allowing them to fly around the loft,but we need to take care while pigeons fly.
