Now we know the merits of Precision farming and the changes it can bring to Indian fields. But implementing it is a great challenge in India. It require high initial costs and technical knowledge. In India, most of the farms and fields are small in size.Implementation of precision farming require huge investment and it should be done in bulk in a large area to be profitable. However farmer groups and corporate farmers can afford the costs and small scale farmers can implement some basic concepts of precision farming through careful selection.
Precision farming is basically a management process. We are managing the field using modern technologies and equipments. It include GPS system,Remote sensing, Geographical information systems, mapping tools,GPS controlled vehicle, soil analyzing tools,fertilizer/pesticide application systems, watering systems,Precision farming software etc.Based on the data collected from various equipments, software decide how to manage farm activities.
Implementation of precision farming
For a small scale farmer, doing all these things are not possible, but he can choose various cost effective systems in precision farming concept. He can do soil analysis by testing soil samples from nearby lab. Thus he can apply fertilizers to his field very precisely. Modern watering systems like drip irrigation system can be implemented very cheaply. Fertilization also can be done through irrigation systems. These are viable options for Indian farmers to do precision farming.Construction of Greenhouse structure is a little bit costlier but some farmers are constructing Greenhouses and implementing other systems inside it.So in India, precision farming concept is slightly deviated from its original form.

Another option is formation of Farmers Associations.By forming associations, farmers can raise required fund for precision farming.Since precision farming can be done in huge area of land, the farming will be cost effective. In this method ,precision farming can be done in its original form with GPS and is the most recommended solution for Indian farmers
In India lots of farmers reported huge success by implementing precision farming.A farmer from Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu got three times more profit compared to his traditional farming.Another farmer in chittoor of Palakkad district of Kerala reported huge success in Banana cultivation.A group of farmers in Perumatty panchayath of Palakkad district got high profit by implementing precision farming concepts. Thus those who are implementing precision farming in their fields are getting decent revenue compared to traditional farming.Getting maximum revenue from minimum land is essential for the existence of farmers in India.By implementing precision farming,we can ensure the profitability of farming sector...
