 From my previous post,we know some details about chicken farming for meat purpose.Now we are going to discuss about chicken egg farm business.Egg farming is one of the profitable section of poultry farming.Majority of people prefer Chicken Eggs than other poultry Eggs.Main Egg producers in India are from Maharashtra,Tamil Nadu and Kanataka states.Kerala is one of the main consumer of Eggs.As there is always a huge demand exists for Chicken Eggs,starting a Chicken farm for the production of Eggs will be a great idea.

India got 5th position in the production of Eggs.Nearly 4%of the total Global production of Eggs are from India.The market grows at an average of 7% annually. One interesting fact is that India got Lowest Egg production cost among all Egg producing countries.India has over 5000 years history in Egg production.From these datas,it is very clear that Indian farmers can successfully do Egg business and is a good opportunity for them.

While doing Egg farming,we need to maintain a clean environment in the farm.Eggs should be collected same day.Old birds should be replaced with new ones.Rest of the things are same as that of Meat farming.Regular feeding and cleaning are important.Drinking water should be clean and need to be available at all time.We can do either backyard farming or Intensive farming.

 Increasing chicken feed rate and maintenance rates are the main challenges in chicken farming.By preparing chicken feeds ourselves,we can avoid this headache.The increasing Egg rate is a good sign for farmers.To ensure maximum profit,they need to avoid retailers and should sell their product directly in market.This will help the end customer to get healthy eggs at cheap rate.So lets start a small chicken farm in our backyard and produce some eggs.

The rapidly increasing  global population and increased awareness about the health issues generated by Red meats make Chicken meat one of the preferred food item among common people. Based on the output from the farm,Chicken farming can be classified to

 Among these three sub categories of chicken farming,Farming for Meat production is the most developed business area.So here we can discuss about small scale chicken farm business for meat purpose.Below are the things we need to consider while setting up a small chicken farm for meat.

Infrastructure

While setting up Infrastructure,we should have a clear idea about the mode of working of our farm.It can be backyard farming,range and fold unit,Intensive system etc.If we are going for Intensive system,initial cost will increase and we have to take care every aspects  of the farm but we can control the production.The infrastructure requirements also different for different mode of farming.So we should have a clear idea about the farming before we proceed.

Selection of Breed

Some chicken breeds are excellent for Meat production but some are not.So it is very important to choose the right one for our farm.Cornish,Marans,Dorking,Jersy giant etc are suitable for Meat production.Same way if we plan for egg farm,we should select breeds accordingly.

Food and Water

Chicken eat and drink a lot.So it is important to feed them consistently.Provision for drinking at any time should be arranged as water plays major role in the health of growing chickens.Care must be taken not to feed chicken contaminated food.

Prevention of Diseases

The farm should be very clean to prevent diseases.Vaccinations for preventing major diseases should be taken time to time.Treatments after disease is very difficult in a chicken farm.If care not taken,a single disease can kill all of our chickens in our farm.

Processing and selling

The chickens should be processed and sold at certain ages.Keeping them for long will cause extra cost to the farmer and result in loss.So there should be a clear marketing idea and having processing unit inside the farm will help the farmer to sell his birds directly to the customers.

 Above details are a small brief about the chicken farm.There are lots of things to learn while we are going for chicken farming which can only learned through practical experience.Chicken farming is a profitable business and it is profitable only when we take care every aspects of the farming.So be careful while entering for chicken farming.The success will be always with the one who take risks..

  Poultry farming is one of the well established farming sector in India. Rearing domesticated birds is very common among Indian Villages. Almost all northern states and some southern states  like Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu   contain backyard poultry farms in villages.Hi-Tech poultry farms also present in these states.Poultry meat is well popularized in India compared to other meats like Mutton,Beef,Pork etc.The businesses generated by selling Eggs are another advantage of Poultry farming.So it is a good small scale business idea to start a poultry farm near our home.

  Poultry farming can be done in two ways.One way is by doing backyard farming in which the birds are allowed to feed freely from near by open places and only one shelter is constructed for nesting purpose.The kitchen wastes and natural sources will be the feed for birds.Another way is by constructing a fully integrated farm where the birds are kept in a protected shelter and food is provided by us.Both method has its own advantages and disadvantages.If we want a small farm of below 30 birds near our house,backyard farming is the suitable option.
