Organic manure Vermicompost/Vermiwash Preparation

Vermicompost is another effective organic manure other than Panchagavya - an organic manure developed from Cow dung.Vermicompost is prepared by the actions of Earthworms.Earthworms are known as Friends of Farmer.Breakdown of Organic material happens due to actions of Earthworms and micro organisms which leads to a high fertile soil. This action happens in nature continuously and that is the way of nature to replenish the soil fertility.Repeating same cycle in our garden, we can develop an effective organic manure  from Earthworms which is known as Vermicomposting.

Preparation

Select a container or basket in suitable size as per your compost requirement. The first thing you should concentrate is the preparation of Earthworm Bed.Create some small holes at the bottom of container/basket for aeration. Then fill a mixture of coconut fiber and newspaper strips up to some height.Moist it well. This will be your Earthworm bed.Place your earthworms on the top of the bed.Soon they will go inside the bed. Then add a layer of food waste and cover it with shredded newspaper.spray water upon it.You have successfully completed the preparation of your vermicompost container.Soon the earthworms start their job. They will start to eat the food wastes and leave composted soil. You can add new layers of organic wastes above the bed.Don't forget to add some layers of coconut fibers in between the waste layers. You can add other organic materials like cow dung, leaves etc to the vermicompost container.Avoid adding Non-veg items.Place the container in a well protected shaded area.

Taking compost out of container

You should be very careful not to damage earthworm bed while using the compost in the container.Take the compost out from top slowly. This will allow earthworms to go under the bed and remain safe there.

Applying Vermicompost.

You can either directly apply it to the soil or by adding it with water. If you directly apply it to the soil.then ensure that the soil is moisture and no other chemical fertilizer is added to it.Vermicompost contain lots of micro organisms. They will work very well in moisture condition.Addition of chemicals kill the micro organisms.
If you use vermicompost with water, you can either prepare vermiwash or Vermicompost tea.Vermiwash is prepared by allowing water to pass through the vermicompost container and collecting it.It should be diluted by adding ten times of pure water in it.This vermiwash is a very good foliar spray.Vermicompost tea is prepared from high quality worm casts.Cover some worm casts with a piece of cloth and put it in a bucket containing pure water.Add some yeast to the water to enhance the growth of micro organisms.Put the bucket in a shaded area for two days and squeeze the worm cast after two days. The resulting tea contain lots of micro organisms and nutrients which is best for plants. It cab be either sprayed on plants as foliar spray or directly applied to the soil.

In India,Government agencies are giving lots of subsidies for building Vermicompost pits and structures. If you are planning for developing a farm, then Vermicompost preparation is an essential part of it.

Preparing Panchagavya For Sale-New Business Opportunity

The farming sector is in a new direction today.More and more people realized the potential hazards of using chemical fertilizers and pesticides and are turning towards Organic farming. To compensate the increasing demands of Organic fertilizers,we need to explore new possibilities of organic manures and utilize existing methods carefully. Panchagavya is a good solution to meet the increased demand of Organic fertilizers.

Increased demand of Panchagavya leads to a good business opportunity among farmers. People like hobby gardeners, hobby farmers, apartment people don't have enough time, space and facilities to prepare Panchagavya for them. If we can utilize this opportunity effectively,it will become a good business and a social service for a greener earth.

Marketing

  • While doing marketing, careful analysis is required. Focus on City areas where the chances of panchagavya availability is less.
  • Panchagavya is having a bad smell. So bottle carefully and cleanly. It should be hygienic.
  • Fill it in 1 litre,2 litre,5 litre,10 litre bottles.
  • Prepare a notice of panchagavya benefits and attach it with each bottle.
  • Participate in exhibitions and advertise on newspapers to get maximum publicity.
  • The price should be genuine
I know it is very hard to do all these things effectively in real world, but at least we can try some of the points. Panchagavya preparation is emerging as a good business, you can google it to see what is going on. You can prepare panchagavya for your own use and for commercial use. Please read the post Preparation of Panchagavya for more information.

Preparation of Panchagavya - An Organic Manure

'Panchagavya' is a highly effective Organic manure which is used by Indian farmers from the times of Vedas.Vrukshaurveda-the famous vedic book about plants describes its preparation and benefits.Panchagavya enhances the biological efficiency of plants and stimulates their growth through the actions of microorganisms and micro nutrients contained in it.Its efficiency is verified in field by Indian farmers over thousands of years and are continue to use it. So lets discuss how to make Panchagavya.

Panchagavya is a mixture of Five products from Cow-an animal which is considered equal to god in Indian culture. The word Pancha means Five and Gavya means products. So Panchagavya is a mixture of five products from cow.The other ingredients used are to enhance the growth of microorganisms in this mixture.

Ingredients to prepare approximately 20 Litres of Panchagavya are
  • Cow dung -5 Kg
  • Cow's Urine-3 litres
  • Cow's Curd-2 litres
  • Cow's Ghee-500 gms
  • Cow's Milk-2 litres

Organic Manures--Natural way to Feed the Soil during Farming

Even though the technology developed highly enough to replace the soil from farms, the products are different from the ones produced organically from soil.So here we discuss how to enrich our soil with nutrients and organic contents. To enrich soil with nutrients,we can apply synthetic nutrients, but in long turn these synthetic nutrients decreases soil's ability to retain organic contents, water etc and quality of the soil decreases heavily. So the best way to avoid these is to utilize the possibilities of Organic manures.

Soil is the base of our conventional farming methods. We apply everything to soil. If the quality of the soil is very weak, plants can't use what we are giving to them. So enriching soil is an important task in the farming process. Using Organic manures is the best way to do it.

What are Organic Manures

Organic manures are natural materials ready to decay in to the soil to provide food/nutrient to the plants by enhancing the growth of essential micro organisms in the soil. The micro organisms convert nutrients present in the soil and the manure to a form which can easily be absorbed by plants. Its ultimate function is to provide nutrients in natural way.

Functions of Organic Manures

  • Provide nutrients
  • Retail soil's ability to store water
  • Provide Organic acids to dissolve soil nutrients
  • Balance soil's PH value
  • Enhance the growth of essential micro organisms
Different methods of Organic Manuring
  • Green manuring
  • Green leaf manuring
  • Composting
  • Organic waste manuring
All are different methods to achieve a common result based on different types of plants.
Among these Organic manuring methods, there are some unique techniques developed to achieve maximum results. We will discuss some of them in the coming posts.
